"Open a money market account."

If you want to stay liquid, this is what I would suggest as well.

what is an equity line of credit? i have the same problem now too ml4l wondering how to manage my bankroll. i'm trying to use it to pay off college debts and whatever else i can do for tax deductions. also i am trying to move up in stakes as much as i can, any increase in hourly earn rate adds up to a lot. still though i have the same "problem" : ) as you, i'm saving up for real estate but in the mean time not sure what to do with it.

What's the typical percentage return? How much do I need? How easy is it to liquidate? Where can I get started?

It's not for me, but my gf has a lot of savings and the only thing I can recommend is ING Savings @ 2.25%.

The one I'm in right now gets 4.5%, and it's tax free. Not sure how much you need, and not sure where you can get started. I think mine is in like a Morgan Stanley type place(but not that one, can't think of the name right now) As far as liquidating it, I can usually get money from it within 48 hours.
