Re: Flame On...I really like Country Music
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Steve Earle (I'm not sure if he counts as country. [/ QUOTE ] Why wouldn't he? craig [/ QUOTE ] Well, some of his songs could be considered "country," but others are certainly "rock." He also has done bluegrass and pop. I think he's a pretty tough guy to categorize. Is "The Revolution Starts Now" a country song? |

He is definitely tough to categorize though, as are other "country" singers/bands. Is older Johnny Cash and George Jones country or rockabilly? Also, Steve Earle doesn't have typical modern country lyrics. And is frowned upon by the Toby Keith's of the country world. I am not familiar with the song you mentioned above. craig |

Re: Flame On...I really like Country Music
Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, (or check out the Highwaymen, that was a country supergroup with those guys, Kristofferson and JC)... enthusiastic second on the Townes Van Zandt.
Graham Parsons is considered sort of the founder of alt-country, has some interesting stuff. NT |

Re: Flame On...I really like Country Music
what's to flame? country music kicks ass - except most of the "pop" country that so-called country radio stations play, off course.

Re: Flame On...I really like Country Music
If those are the ones you like you should also be listening to Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, George Jones... and maybe Shooter Jennings (Waylon's son).

Another guy who is tough to categorize but could be considered country is Jerry Jeff Walker. Check him out. [/ QUOTE ] Jerry Jeff Walker is pretty easily categorized as Texas Country, along with Robert Earl Keen, Pat Green, Kevin Fowler, etc. |
