NL teams are built for the pitcher hitting, AL teams for a DH. Yet there is interleauge play now to think about, putting the visiting team at an inherant disadvantge.

[/ QUOTE ]

As long as a team plays equal numbers of home and away interleague games, this is not a problem.

So we've had this thing for a while now. I cant remember if it was controversial when it came out or if anyone was against it.

I think its one of the best things baseball has done.

Anyone out there not like the wildcard?

The next thing baseball could do to improve is to set up a relegation system similar to European soccer.

Why not? With only 4 or 5 teams able to afford the best players, baseball is halfway to being English soccer anyway.

There's no way the second best team in the Major Leagues should not be in the playoffs. Imagine having 100 wins but not making the playoffs because some team got 110, while another team squeaked in with a prettty .500 average.

Absolutely terrible.

Wildcard = good thing.

[/ QUOTE ]

Wildcard + imbalanced schedule = fuckng awful.

Hmm, let's see.

New York, New York, Los Angeles, Los Angeles, Boston, Seattle, St. Louis, Houston, Texas, Philly, Baltimore, Cubs, Giants.

These are just the teams that *choose* to spend their money. Teams like Oakland and Minnesota *could* afford it.

I was hyperbolizing. But the constant rape of small-market teams by large-market clubs is part of what keeps baseball a distant second to football in terms of popularity, in my opinion.

Back to the point...
I think the wild card is a good thing, but I wish it were a little harder for the WC team to win the whole thing, like in football. Unfortunately, I don't see how this can be done effectively without allowing more teams in the postseason, which I definitely don't want. So the current system is ok, but I will still bitch about it when I feel like it.

my biggest problem with the Wild card is the 5 game Division Series. make it 7 games. if my team goes 110-52 over the season, and plays .500 ball over the last 3 weeks of the season, and I have to play a wild card team that's won 25 of 30, i'm going to be pissed.
