Foo foo joints? Look, I just love paying $8.50 for a sandwich and $3 for an 8-ounce soda in a plastic cup at "Snacks" in the Bellagio! Nothing wrong with handing the girl a $20 and getting $6 back.

[/ QUOTE ]

$8.50? You cheapskate. . . I just paid 19.50$ for a corned beef and turkey sandwich at the Mirage. . .

LOL. Note that "Snacks" has a menu posted outside its door, a menu without any prices on it!

(I actually stayed at the Gold Coast this last trip and, I, well...........I, actually bought two hot dogs in the sports book for 75-cents each I'm so ashamed)

[/ QUOTE ]

I've walked through the sports book at the Gold Coast a hundred times, but have never seen any hot dogs--where do they hide them. I am a big fan of the Gold Coast Graveyard Special: 2 eggs, 3 links of sausage, hash browns and toast = $1.85. Avail after 11PM.

At least you got the sandwich. I sat at a table in Carnagie's (sp) for twenty minutes waiting to order, then gave up and left. This is just part of the story but no exageration; I timed it with the stopwatch on my cell phone. I tried the take-out side a few days later (with a bad attitude) and left when they wouldn't let me order half of one.

Where was the awful place downtown with the rancid miniature hamburgers? Was it the California?

[/ QUOTE ]

Heh, I know the one you mean but can't remember the name. I think it had "Golden" in the name, as in "Golden Californian" or "Golden Corral." I was also telling my wife about the downtown poker room that had spitoons at each table, but couldn't remember that name either.

[/ QUOTE ]

Golden Gate?

[/ QUOTE ]

I think the Golden Gate is still in business. The place I'm thinking of has been defunct for several years. Might have been it, though.

Most notable absence of that type of eatery is the Mirage Snack Bar, IMO. Used to be you could get a killer chicken sammie and miss one round of blinds. Now you have to order a gross sammie the size of your head at the fancy deli they put in and you miss way more than one round.

Downgrade.

....Poker rooms have staged a comeback, but another institution has not: the the casino cafe/lunch counter/snack bar.

[/ QUOTE ]

I agree. The old Binion's had a sloppy deli near the poker room for years that served wonderfully rancid and unappetizing food. A few of the downtown casinos still have these gut bars for the steel stomached. Why not start a business by wheeling about a hotdog/sandwich cart through all the casino poker rooms? Probably make more doing that than by playing poker. And let that remark be a lesson to us all.

You are still alive. I assume this is good news to you?

good call -

i would have prefered that sandwich at 4am from a little deli in the mirage. instead i opted to walk down to the noodle bar, selected what sounded the best and was told it was closed. so from there i went in and sat in that crapibe cafe, ordered a breakfast to go --- paid 13 bucks for it and get it back to the room and it didnt come with a fork. wtf, i was pissed -- those eggs over easy were some good eatin using my hands.

cheers
