ace king is not the amazing bullet-proof hand that you donks seem to think it is. hellmuth probably put the guy on a pocket pair and did not wanna flip coins. hellmuth likes to play post-flop poker, not the wpt all in preflop poker that is becoming so popular. kind of ironic since he lost all in preflop holding AQ, but you get the point.

Hey, thanks for clearing that up for me. I knew there was the leak in my game ... just didn't know I was playing AK wrong. I thought if you had AK you won the entire pot pre-flop. Thanks again for your brilliant insight.

i got the impression from OP that folding AK was a bad move. stating the obvious yes, but most ppl think AK is autocall preflop.

Well, one of the AK laydowns, the board was like AA4 and somehow Phil put the guy on a boat and laid down his AK. Turns out the guy had a boat. Should be interesting to see on ESPN.

Unfortunately he doesn't do this only when he's way behind.

He was not "for sure" up against a boat. I didn't realize there was a flop on this hand. My dad was there, and he remembers seeing one. In any event, Hellmuth folds AK face up here, and the other guy did NOT show. I really doubt he had a boat.

He said H-O-L-D-E-M, not P-O-K-E-R. The guy is like a giant cartoon character.

Folding AK is not a big deal. Folding AK and making a scene and showing it is. He is saying "come over the top of me, and I'll fold anything but aces, and maybe kings." And everyone did. Phil didn't show AK to set up a play where he could call with it. He folded AK to show how great he was to the table.

I yell out a loud "JACK!!!" and the dealer answers my request with a rivered jack. A few people cheer, but not as many as I would expect.

I hate to start a quasi-flame war, but come on. You rooted explicitly against Phil Hellmuth? Surely there are better ways to use your time at the Main Event.

[/ QUOTE ]Yeah. They recently re-aired the 2003 US Poker Championship where Helmuth lays down AK to the eventual winner's AQ. Phil shows, so does the other player, Phil's head explodes.

if the player really didnt have a boat then not showing your hand is worse than going alling preflop with 72o. not only would you have your 15 minutes in the sun... or more, but you would have hellmuth on a tilt frenzy and essentially go bust within minutes.
