One thing it accompishes is to keep the ball from carrying. I'm not sure there is a big a benefit in baseball as there is in football as far as crowd noise goes.

Beware the over! 2 premier pitchers. Not sure the over is such a great value.

I have seen the occasional dropped catch where the crowd noise has stopped the fielders from communicating, but can see that it is not as much as stopping the QB from shouting instructions.

I followed the Astros quite closely last season, but haven't really watched much baseball this season. I couldn't resist "International MLB.tv" showing every single playoff game, no blackouts for $15 though [img]/images/graemlins/blush.gif[/img]

They were saying that the Astros were something like (Excuse my poor short term memory) 14-11 with the roof open and 47-17 with it closed. (I'm aware those numbers are slightly too high)
