Re: 2+2\'er gets pwned trying to slowplay (marginal content)

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] plus a bet for some information [/ QUOTE ] This is one of the most overused phrases and techniques in low limit hold'em. Unlearn it. [/ QUOTE ] This was only a small added benefit that I included with my draws. I NEVER make this as a play for the value in itself. If my equity is 50%, would the bet not be OK then as it does have a chance of making him fold (even if this chance is ~1%) it is still marginally +EV. [/ QUOTE ] So what's your plan on a non-club, non-Q turn? Bet for more information? Keep up the semibluff? 'Cuz this is gonna get expensive. Your folding equity on this flop against a PF 3-bettor is damned close to 0. Rob |

Point taken. If I have the control to not "bet for more information" on the turn then would this be at least an EV Neutral move or not?

Re: 2+2\'er gets pwned trying to slowplay (marginal content)
What exactly did KK do wrong? I'd play this hand pretty much the same. Heads up with position this seems like a standard call then raise the turn. A raise on the flop wouldn't have protected his hand, and you still would have called for one more bet, even with only a gutshot (not counting the flush outs).
I would fault AT's play before I would say anything towards KK. |

You're really only ahead of 99 enough to be betting this flop HU. 12 outs will be ~45% of the equity but your outs will be effectively reduced to 10 quite often here. Rob |

Re: 2+2\'er gets pwned trying to slowplay (marginal content)
Well so I guess the 2+2'er who got pwned was me in this marginal content post. I'm glad I posted it though now, as it may have just fixed a leak in my game (albeit, a very minor leak).

Sure are many "eye-openers" for me as a fairly new player here on this forum. This was one of them.

I thought you don't always need the best hand to bet for value.

I thought you don't always need the best hand to bet for value. [/ QUOTE ] It's hard to have a hand good enough to bet/raise for value with only one opponent. |

Re: 2+2\'er gets pwned trying to slowplay (marginal content)
[ QUOTE ]
I thought you don't always need the best hand to bet for value. [/ QUOTE ] Against an opponent who will never fold, the flop bet isn't wise. But if the villian will fold QQ or AQ or some other hand that has you beat then it begins to make more sense. The problem is that a better hand will almost never fold to a flop bet and then you have to invest another bet on the turn to see if he has one of those hands that will go away. The problem is that often times he will either call again on the turn or raise you (with a better hand) and then your prolonged semibluff starts to get costly. Brad |
