I'm with Angry on this one. Small Stakes is your best "foundation" book. Before you start getting confused with some of the whim strategies contained in other books, get SSHE into your core memory.

There's a reason why SSH is for "advanced" players. Before you can learn or appreciate that book, you have to have a solid foundation before you even open it up. ITH and WLLH are both excellent ways to get that foundation.

But keep SSH around and read it once you don't feel like a beginner anymore....

AngryCola gives great advice...I'm on my 5th read of SSHE and it's like watching Seinfeld...every episode gets you something new.

When I play, my default play is always the exact advise from WLLH. I only deviate from this play if I have a good reason to do so (read on a player, abnormal table conditions, etc.)

[/ QUOTE ]Even the starting hands? Because I thought I had read that you use Sklansky and Malmuth starting hands (hence your preflop simulator), but everything post-flop is from WLLH.

Yeah, you're right. When I refer to WLLH, I'm usually talking about its postflop advice.

I think HPFAP is more comprehensive when it comes to preflop, but WLLH is not too far off. Actually, I like SSH preflop advice (for its simplicity).

The great advantage of SSH is they give you guidance on starting hands, but they deliberately tell you it's much more important to focus on the postflop concepts. That's where you'll make/save money even if you come in with crap.

Yeah...10th reading...still finding new stuff.
