I don't get this impression from you but I get the impression from the other two posters that they think the people that go to these events are some sort of mass cult members singing "Ueber Alles" when I didn't find that to be the case today. I heard a few inane things from the audience but no more inane than I read or hear anywhere else. People were actually fairly reserved.

I think one has to be awfully close minded not to condemn and insult those who listen and consider viewpoints that they don't share. It would be like me condemning or insulting someone for seeing Farenheit 9/11 because I don't share Moore's viewpoints.

fair enough. did you check out the link? i esp like this one:
HANNITY: "It doesn't say anywhere in the Constitution this idea of the separation of church and state." (8/25/03)

[/ QUOTE ]

Sounds like a quote taken out of context. There is a lot of debate concerning the application of the first admendment and I'm sure Hannity had a lot more to say about it. The guy has a pretty big mouth after all. If the site doesn't give you the entire context, then its obvious it is nothing more than propoganda. You should be ashamed you did not see it as such.

well, I most certianly think there were some crazies there, Hannity atracts some, but I am sure there were just a lot of people who like his show who were there who aren't "Crazies". I mean, I have seen his show on Fox several times, as well as heard his radio show before, and everything he sayd isn't liberal bashing, he just never misses an oppurtunity to bash them when its handed to him. I personally don't like him at all, but I think there is probably a large amount of moderate people that are a fan of his show and "schtick".

I've never listened to his radio show so I don't know. I think the TV show during the campaign really degraded as the campaign went along. I don't think the TV show is particularly good at it's best btw.

Ok, are you mocking Hannity or the fool that uses the first amendment to say the constitution has the seperation of church and state written into it? The establishment clause has nothing to do with the ten commandments in courthouses or nativity scenes at city hall. Google "a wall of seperation between church and state" if you want to know the truth of the origin of that sentiment.

FWIW, I agree with you, with regards to taking in different viewpoints. IMO, most of the US population is completely closeminded.

Personally, I consider Hannity to be the right wing version of Michael Moore--Hannity is to quasi-fascism as Moore is to quasi-socialism. I would never pay any money to hear what either of these guys had to say. If I was bored and able to see either of them speak for free, however, I would probably go, if nothing else, just for the freak show aspect (even though it seems this wasn't the case during your experience).

Now if there is ever a steel cage death match between these two guys, well, lets just say I would pay top dollar to see that.

FACT: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." (1st Amendment)

[/ QUOTE ]

The last time I checked, the government of the United States of America had not established a religion. The government has certainly not prohibited the free exercise of religion.

So what is your point? Hannity is correct, the phrase "separation of church and state" does not appear in the first amendment.

Stu, i have genrally respected and enjoyed your posts, til this last one. why the personal attack? I "should be ashamed"? what a hippocritical thing to say. YOU should be ashamed for defending Hannity (one of the modern masters of miscontextualization), while questioning my use of context. my post was meant as anecdotal evidence/ humor, not argumentation. get off your high horse, before you stick your foot in your mouth again. (sry to mix metaphors)

Hannity is the kind of reckless ideolouge that is making rational discussion of real political issues harder and harder. 'a big mouth' is pretty much all he brings to the table. If you, like your man sean, are only intrested in getting into shouting matches and trading insults, don't bother to respond to my posts anymore.

still your buddy

if you don't think that the first amendment was intended to establish the seperation of curch and state, i don't know how to convince you that it does.

oh wait!

read any of the hundreds of supreme court decisions that explicitly interpret the first ammendment to mandate a seperation of curch and state!

then re-read your post and see if you can find your error. (hint: establishment and establish are two different words)
