It's sad you wasted all that time on poker and don't understand it.

Well, the more I think about it the better 3-way action or 5-way action (in my dreams) sounds great, especially with the Las Vagas prostitutes. Remember, "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas", yes?

I have read almost every book on holdem; absorbed Mike Previt's book on odds; played a thousand games on line and play 12 hrs per day at a live casino games in AC on Friday and Sat and watched a lot of decent poker on TV (not that celebrity poker crap).

It's good to be enlightened by such a battle hardened veteran.

Seriously, this is some pretty bad trolling.

If I miss the flop with 8/8 let's say with 5 players, and I am not next to the button, arent't I about 1:11 to get a set on the turn/river? With 5 players in addition to me, isn't that a bad draw if I miss the flop?(

[/ QUOTE ]

most of the time you will be folding 88 on the flop if there is 5 way action. that doesn't mean its unprofitable to play. you allude to playing nl with 88. if you play 88 like aa in nl, you will lose a ton of money.

Why? They are both pairs. The winning hand is like almost always a pair.

Except when it's two pair.

Milo, I know you are a "Moderator" but I want to meet the players who, in limit HE, are making more than 2 big bets/hr after the rake.

[/ QUOTE ]

Hi...nice to meet you.

It is my humble opinion that Holdem Poker (at least pre-flop, no limit) is well over 75% pure LUCK. Just watching WSOP should tell you that luck is the bigger part of the game.

[/ QUOTE ]

In a tournament like the WSOP luck obviously does play a large role due to the limited time (think big picture) the tournament can last. You at least are correct in this regard. But consider Dan Harrington's back to back final table appearances in 2003 and 2004 (in addition to 1995 when he won it) or Greg Raymer's strong showing in this years main event a year after winning it. Clearly there are other factors at work that are much more significant than you seem to give them credit for. In one tournament luck exists and plays a crucial role in determing how a particular player will fare (Moneymaker 2003). As hand after hand and tournament after tournament melt together to become the story of a player's poker life however, it does not.
