My roommate, several months ago, flopped a spade royal flush.
He turned the 9 of spades too. He got nothing out of it.. him and only one other person in the pot who had A-9.. 4 spades on the board.
2nd best flopped hand is by me with quad Ks (pocket Ks) and then quad Qs (Q-10) and also turned the 10. Luckily my opponent hit an 8 on the river... i was first to act, checked it on all streets.. he put me all-in. (this was in a tourny)

Nice hand though. Surprised you got anything out of it!
Ive only had 1 royal.. it was online (party or UB, cant remember)

no, cold calling here with QJs, J10s etc. is terrible.

cold calling here with 77-99, AJs and KQs, and AQo is not only fine, but recommended. Some prefer to three bet more here, (as do i usually), but cold-calling is def. not terrible at all.

I didn't really like the flop bet, but I play .5/1, so I am probably wrong!

I think when in doubt, you should try your hardest not to cold call first in. it's probably the worst situation you can possibly be in. you don't know what's going on behind you and you're the only other person interested. that being said, if you're going to do it, do it with AJs. you'll often get both blinds, and it's hard to argue that you're not in a good spot 4 handed vs. 2 blinds and a PFR with position and AJs. if you were playing 2/4 or 3/6 I'd hate the cold call, but at 15/30 the average player's range probably only falls slightly above AJs.

According to all the criticism I received on my recent downswing, your cold call here is terrible.

[/ QUOTE ]

I think calling, folding and raising here are all fine here.

[/ QUOTE ]

No, folding here is bad. See, he hit a royal flush. Royal flushes are good hands to have.
