[ QUOTE ]
Anyone wearing headphones at the table is basically saying two things... 1. I'm anti-social and unfriendly, and I don't care about table my image, whether I'm well liked, etc, and I don't care about the effect this might have on my EV either. 2. I don't care to take advantage of everything being said at the table; I'd rather stay in the dark as far as the conversation goes. Leave the friggin' headphones at home if you have any sense. al [/ QUOTE ] I don't think this holds true for everyone. I have only played live three times, and I wore earbuds for 2/3 times. I was always friendly and talkative at the table...music just helps to pass the time and keep me interested. |

If I have to listen to you justify why you played that hand that way one more time, I am going to kill you and your family, so I'd better just listen to these headphones. [/ QUOTE ] FYP |

I agree with Jeff and Al. One of the things that live play brings is the information that you are able to retrieve, without any effort whatsoever. Things such as one player telling another player what they folded, if the flop is paired and some guy cringes and mumbles that he tossed that card, or even general strategy discussions. This helps you get a better read on how the others play.
Now, there is nothing wrong with listening to your Ipod as far as your image is concerned. Do it if you want to, don't worry about the anti-social factor. Worry more about the abundant information that you are missing. |

Do ipods have a negative effect on table image? Call me crazy, i guess...but tables are generally better for me when i have my ipod off than on. Anyone notice something like this? [/ QUOTE ] i need my ipod, otherwise the things people say at the table make me want to murder their loved ones. |

I keep my player in my pocket most of the time but there are instances where it can be a life saver. Whenever there is someone super annoying at the table it is so much easier to drown them out and ignore them. I rarely go to to play without it.
In general, people with headphones on tend to be serious players. |

Ever try to grind out a 20 hour session of 10 20 without a little music? I would rather eat my own fingers.

Exactly.
It really depends on the table. During the day or early evening when everyone's quiet and the place is a rock garden (at least in Tunica) full of regular nits, I'll wear mine just to pass the time. I typically play mostly ABC poker at these points anyways. As the tables start loosening up (7-9pm) I'll usually drop one earbud and keep something with a beat going while halfway listening to the table. This way I can hop into hte conversation occationally.. joke around a bit...get in the mix, but still have some entertainment when things die down. After around 10pm till 3-4 am the tables are so damn funny that I'll usually leave the iPod in my pocket and open up my game a little against the drunks. |

Sometimes a game just isn't that good but will almost surely be later. Music can help keep me focused. |

I've never used mine, but I've been thinking about trying it.
Live poker is just too damn slow. |
