Re: Should I have called a floorman?
[ QUOTE ]
Then why did you bet? If you know what he is chasing, and you know he is getting odds to call, then you made the error of betting the flop. [/ QUOTE ] WHAT? The hero did NOT make a mistake by betting. That's insane. SpaceAce |

Re: Should I have called a floorman?
[ QUOTE ]
I figured if the dealer is ruling this way, the floorman would too [/ QUOTE ] Why on earth did you think this? Yes, of course you should have called the floor. If you think the dealer made an incorrect ruling it never hurts to get a second opinion just to be sure. If you don't want to look like a total nit then you can also make sure you are slightly apologetic and you 'just want to be sure' because you want to be certain this is correct (or something like that). Then accept the floor's decision politely (for the most part...even if it's wrong) and move on. Game hopefully stays friendly this way. By helping the drunk stay in the hand you ENSURED it would stay VERY friendly. If the floor had maintained the bet and allowed you to raise then there's a good chance that even a drunk would fold to 2 bets (depends on HOW crazy-drunk). If you were able to fold him out then think of how ticked off he would have gotten when that 9 came (assuming the other called and you got to see the next card). Now THAT would have been fun. |

Re: Should I have called a floorman?
Laugh it off, order a round of tequila for you and the drunk and secretly kick the poster in the nuts mentally. You did the right thing.

Re: Should I have called a floorman?
[ QUOTE ]
It sounds like the consensus here is I should have stopped and called the floor. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, but this is the sort of screw up you might be better off living with, as enforcing the letter of the law in this case may make you look like an unpleasant nit (even though I'm relatively certain you aren't) and hurt action on hands yet to be dealt. ~ Rick |

Re: Should I have called a floorman?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] loose Drunk guy chasing the 9 very well may have called you. [/ QUOTE ] But if I raised, his call would have been mathematically incorrect. He was getting 9:1 immediate to chase a gutshot (plus potentially more if the poster called and implied odds if he hit), but if I raised he'd be getting 11:2, and would have to either fold or make an unprofitable call. I play poker to force opponents to make these unprofitable calls, and getting robbed of that ability frustrates me. [/ QUOTE ] Then why did you bet? If you know what he is chasing, and you know he is getting odds to call, then you made the error of betting the flop. Wait and pop the turn on a blank, when he would not be getting the odds he needs. All this assumes the card room would have let you pull your bet back. [/ QUOTE ] This is one of the most unintentionally hilarious posts I've ever seen. |

Re: Should I have called a floorman?
Calling the floor would have made you look like a nit. If I have a guy who is willing to tell me what card he needs I want to keep him happy and gambooling at all costs. The dealer clearly pussed out on forcing the bet to stand, but I don't think this is worth making more than a mild protest.
