Re: Lost my stack with AA - comments?
Could you please explain the rationale for reraising more pre-flop?
My thinking was that I didn't want him to fold PF and then I'd try to get as much as possible in on the flop (barring some good reason for thinking I was beat). Thanks! |

Re: Lost my stack with AA - comments?
You played the hand real well(but u already know that), you just gotta work on not goin on tilt.
I think I read in one of Sklansky's books(i'm not sure which), it goes something like :- If i get drawn out on when im a favorite like (80-20), the way i look at it is outta hundred times im gonna lose 20, and I've just lost one, so im gonna lose 19 outta the next 99. Its a very simplistic way of thinking and it most definitely stops me from goin on tilt ever. |

Hi, I think I played this hand reasonably well, but since I only recently stepped up from a lower buy-in table, I'd like others' comments. Thanks! 2-4 No limit, $300 buy-in at Foxwoods. I've been playing for about 40 minutes, have about $305. In LP, I'm dealt A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]A [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Player two to my right (who has made a number of PF raises to 2 or 25 in the time I've been there) bumps it to 25. I reraise to 60. All fold, original raiser calls. Flop: 4 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]10 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] He checks, I bet $100, he check raises to put me all in for another $145. I decide my pot odds exceed the probability that he has a set and call. He flips over: A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] The turn comes: 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] and the river: 2 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] and I lose to the gutshot flush. Any comments on how I played the hand? [/ QUOTE ] Are you serious? Seriously. |

Hand plays itself. It could just easily have been you who backdoored a 4-flush. [/ QUOTE ] Sure about that? Hero checkraises before flop. AJ is crap in those situations. After the flop hero says he can beat TPTK. This is one of the most profitable sitations against the fish. |

Re: Lost my stack with AA - comments?
You played it well until your opponent hit his runner runner flush to beat you.
You got all of your money in with the best hand. Take that for what its worth. |

Re: Lost my stack with AA - comments?
you played the hand well but if he is willing to call a $60 reraise with AJ, then he will probably call more with AQ, AK, QQ, KK, etc...
I guess when I reraise with AA/KK preflop, I want to get enough value from it to make up for the information I give out as with players this loose I don't really narrow down his range much if he calls my reraise. |

Re: Lost my stack with AA - comments?
Yeah, i would make it 80-100 preflop, then push on the flop....Not sure that it would change the outcome, but your reraises should be bigger than the minimum

Re: Lost my stack with AA - comments?
There is something to be said about raising more preflop to get more out of better hands, but your play worked out perfectly from a skills point of view. he did exactly what you wanted. If you'd gone allin you would have probably won a medium pot but by actually playing out the hand (read: bet a reasonable, non-allin amount on flop) and keeping the AJ around, you stand to make more money. I'd be interested to hear other people's POV on playing the hand out versus going allin. You allow a better chance of bad beats, but extract more money.
