Re: Negative EV Play
In Venezuela, some pricks kidnapped the mother of major-league baseball pitcher Ugueth Urbina...
Um the Bellagio isnt Venezuela. In venezuela he made the right move...In Vegas a horrible one. It is his life and safety not really my business but kidnapping and ransoming is WAY more prevalent in Latin America then here. |

It is his life and safety not really my business but kidnapping and ransoming is WAY more prevalent in Latin America then here. [/ QUOTE ] Incorrect. Never, ever go to a secondary location with a would be kidnapper. If they just whipped out the gun and demanded money, yeah, give it to them. However, these guys wanted to take Greg somewhere secluded. In that case they likely had something more sinister planned. Luckily Greg had the ability to resist and fight them off. This was the correct decision, even if you look at it in hindsight with more than a 1/2 second to analyze it. Never, ever go to a secondary location with a would be kidnapper. The outcome will be as bad or worse as if you refuse and try to get away. |

Re: Negative EV Play
Greg,
To be able to think and react quickly and correctly in such a hairy situation is highly commendable in my book. I'm very glad everything went alright for you. |

Re: Negative EV Play
[ QUOTE ]
People like you really amaze me. Somebody makes a hugely difficult decision, having only a second or two to do it, and you criticize them. And it's not just this poster, but several. Let me try to explain this one more time, since you're apparently not reading everything, or not smart enough to remember and understand what you read. [/ QUOTE ] It's your life and your decisions. You made your best decision at the time based on the info available. You don't need to justify your actions to people on the internet that think they know best. Not many people would have the balls to do what you did. We both know these same people would have criticised you in a different way had you meekly given in to the robbers. |

Re: Negative EV Play
[ QUOTE ]
It was clear that they did not intend to simply grab what I had and run. They intended to get me quietly into my room and detain me. [/ QUOTE ] Fighting in these situations would often be the best choice. Giving up the money may be the best choice for a simple mugging but normally when people are attempting to detain you and then especially if they are trying to remove you to a secluded area it's to kill you. Perhaps in this case it was just to get out of the hall and into the room to avoid witnesses but none of us can know that and this is a life and death decision. Does anybody know what the stats are on finding tied up live bodies vs. dead ones? |

Re: Greg Raymer\'s incident makes front page of Yahoo
greg, like the majority of non-idiot-pricks on this forum, i'm very happy to hear it turned out the way it did.
one question: i've read that at least one of the jackasses that tried to rob/kidnap you was a poker player. one thing i havent read is whether you had ever seen the guy before. any chance you took him for his stack earlier in the night? |
