3. most card rooms will provide a variaty of poker magazines, grab them and read them while waiting for next hand.

Be careful though. Was playing at Foxwoods this weekend and had an Asian lady berate me and another player for reading in between hands. She was all "You want read you go library!"

[/ QUOTE ]
Shouldn't that be, "If you want to read, go to the library!"?

I'm having the same problem too, getting bored as hell after being used to 4 tabling, but i still try to stick it out. 3 things i've seen that would work and be more fun would be to:
1- play PSP/game boy, and on the PSP you could watch movies n such as well
2- get a cell thats compatible with pokerroom's mobile internet poker and play a table on the phone and a live table OR get the verizon card for your laptop and 4-table like that guy at the Wynn whos pic was on these forums not too long ago if the casino will let you.
3- smoke a blunt prior to entry, but this only works for some

You have to maintain your discipline at all times. Sometimes this can be hard but it's a part of b&m play. You can't quit the game and jump right back in a half-hour later as you can do online. The temptation to play a hand *out of boredom* can become strong. After a while watching the other players and counting the pots for practice is also boring. Sooner or later you'll develop some poker room friends and be able to at least have some conversation. The advice from others about taking a break and walking around is sound, as well. Try not to do what I do when I get bored and start eating cake and pie. When it's really bad I add ice cream also. The drive home after a lousy session is bad enough but when it also busts my diet it's really depressing.

I see no need for this behaviour on the forum. As I would imagine there are many players of differing backgrounds operating on these boards. In reference to the boredom, heres an idea. Socialise, make a friend. I'm friends with the whole table when I play.

I've played online enough to know how you can literally go hundrends of hands without getting a single thing to play. No biggie, thats poker, be patient, etc.. But in live play, that often translates to many many hours of just sitting there folding and folding and folding. Besides studying opponents, how else do you keep from getting bored to tears?

Live play is great when having fun and you're getting cards, but I'm increasingly intollerant of the down times in live play when there is nothing to do but fold for hours it seems. Its very hard to keep from loosening up in those times... I guess my love of online 6-max games, often 3-4 at a time, has made it more difficult recently to play live action.. which does kinda suck.

Suggestions, perspectives, etc appreciated.. thx.. BB

Use the time wisely to do something to improve your game:

1) Practice reading hands
2) Practice reading players and tells
3) Practice calculating drawing odds and pot odds
4) Do chip tricks. Doesn't do much for your actual play, but it can prompt others to view you as an experienced player (if you so desire this image).
5) Be the table smartass yatterbox like me, make jokes, and make friends. This actually improves the table atmosphere. Games tend to loosen up when everyone is friendly with one another.

Stewie Griffin: I say, anybody listen to Howard Stern this morning? He had some strippers in the studio. They sounded hot. Then he made a joke about a negro, but Robin laughed so it was okay.
