Re: Worst TV plays ever
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Murphy pushing into Arieh's rivered K high flush Tuan Le... everything he does Hoyt Corkins' hand against Cassidy in the USPC with the A and trip jacks [/ QUOTE ] Really agree with the Murphy play. He was in such a good position until he just got lazy. It really seemed that he was satisfied to win the 200K (not that I wouldn't be) and took a very unnecessary risk. [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] [/ QUOTE ] While Murphy's play was not optimal, I really don't think you can call it bad by any stretch. It's pretty hard for Arieh to fold the K-high flush here, and Murphy thinks that Arieh is paying him off a lot of the time here with a very good hand. Arieh just thought one level higher, and made a very good laydown. Still, nowhere near the Tommy Reed turn fold. |

[/ QUOTE ] 2 things: 1) Your avatar is wicked awesome. 2) I agree on Murphy. To say that he was getting lazy (?) is ridiculous. He put Josh on a very strong drawing hand which hit and thought he could get maximum value by going all-in. Let's say Arieh calls that 75% of the time when he pushes, Murphy will get much more value out of that then check-raising. It was a great fold by Josh, as 95% of the players out there call. Brad |

Re: Worst TV plays ever
I remember a WPT event where Scotty Nguyen re-raised all-in against John Stolzmann (college student from Wisconsin who won the event). This is the hand as described on poker-babes.com:
John raised to $200,000 on the button with K8 of clubs. Scotty reraised all-in for over a million with 98 of spades. John thought for a second and then said he had to call because of the pot. He called his last $370,000 in chips and doubled up through Scotty when he flopped a king. I'm sure that this isn't the WORST play ever, but as I was watching it, I was immediately struck by how dumb Scotty's play was. If Stolzmann didn't call, he would've have been the shortstack by far at the table. If I remember correctly, Daniel Negreanu was like, "that was so stupid" as soon as the hand was over. |

Re: Worst TV plays ever
i dont watch much tv poker but that arieh v murphy hand was strange. if i remember, i thought arieh was the aggressor on the flop and turn then murphy led the riv. anyway, it didnt seem to bad to me.
some bad ones i saw recently: 1. jen harmon folding her ak pf as the small stack when it was 4way. 2. that internet guy 3betting allin with a5 against tran. tran never folds and you risk your whole stack with a5. 3. bellande pushing allin against the other big stack with 46 on a board of a234. basically, he assured that a worse hand would fold and only a better hand would call. |

Re: Worst TV plays ever
The worst play that I can think of was made by Alan Shein when he either called an all-in or went all-in against D'Agastino with AK on a KQJ board, when Schein was in second place in the tourney. D'Ag flipped over QQ and knocked him out.

Re: Worst TV plays ever
Some guy tried to steal devilfish blinds with K5s. Blinds on 4000, guys stack was 170k devilfish had about 1 million. The old man raised to 20k. Devislfish pushed with 77. The old man called in split a second and got knocked out. Probably not the worst play ever in WPT, but pretty horrible.

Re: Worst TV plays ever
I thought lee watkinsons call of doyle's all in with a pair of 3's was pretty bad on the legends of poker event. Lee had shown some serious calling station tendencies, and you could tell Doyle was just waiting to pounce, which he did.

Re: Worst TV plays ever
I wouldn't call Murphy's all-in one of the worst plays because its an easy mistake to make under the lights.
How about David Williams dark check with 55? Or when its shown, Aaron Kanter's K5 hand... |
