Ebay and/or Wal-Mart.
I'd recommend your first set to be "cheap" set of the metal insert chips (>$50 for 500). Notice I said FIRST set. Once you've played with those for a few months, you'll get the fever and will want a customized set. If your interest in poker fizzles, you won't have wasted much money. |

The main thing is to make your first set an inexpensive set of chips. (Faux clay, metal inserts, used, etc.)
You can get 500 chips for under $50 from a lot of places. |

costco seems to be the place for first time chip buyers. 2 years ago i bought a set of 500 11.5g "suited" chips for $150ish CDN after shipping, it was a great deal at the time. Now you can go to Costco, get chips that are of about equal value for like 40 or 50 bucks, no shipping, etc.
i highly recommend a deck of copags as well, they are the most reasonable plastic card and cannot be beat for the money. www.cardsbycopag.com be sure to check em out. |

There are plenty of 500 chips sets on eBay that you can get for the minimum bid of $15. Watch the shipping costs, though. One day the eBay folks will have to fix that little scam (but I digress).
