Default Re: 2/4 AA on flush board. Value bet river?

Is it standard to check the turn when the possible flush completion comes?

I would bet 40 to 70% of the pot to see if they want to play their top pair or draw.

Not as afraid of a big reraise there as I may have odds to call w/the Ace of the flush and the possibility that they may be just representing the flush w/ a draw at it. Although a big re-raise would really blow, it'd be a read dependent call.

Of course I get trapped on my continuation bets w/small sets or actual flushes as I make that type of bet too often.

Just trying to learn here when it should be bet out and when not.

I think it's smarter to control the pot and/or induce a bluff in this situation. I really don't want to have to end up all-in on this turn, and if I bet it, it's a real possibility - and I'll certainly be committed. As well, if my opponent checks behind, I (in most cases) am learning a fair bit about his hand (as in mine should be best).

I'd check behind here Ryan. What hands are paying you off here? You likely ran into a busted straight draw or a made flush. Everything else just seems so unlikely for him to have. Except possibly under pairs. AJ is probably out of the question since you have two Aces, so I'm not sure what he'd call with here. You have a better read though, but the hand just doesn't seem right.

Agreed -- a turn bet would fold out a lot of hands that might bet or call on the river, and build a pot for a flush.

If you bet the turn and he calls, the river sucks.

IMO, you must check the turn. If you bet enough to be legitimate and he pushes, you've got to call with your top pair and nut flush draw. Better to get a free draw to the nuts if you can.
