I would fold if it was against 9 random hands, but if we pretend that the players you are against have preset all-in hands, which they would go all-in with no matter whater, and that range of say, 1010-AA and AQ-AK for all-in, then AA would be an easy call, even at the WSOP final table, as you would either chop or win 90 something percent of the time, being as you would be against 2 TT's, 2 JJ's, 2 QQ's, 2 KK's and AA or 2 AK's and 1 KK.

Useless, yep.

You don't need to win half the time to make the cash game call profitable, you need to win more than 1/9th of the time, which you will.

Folding in the cash game is insane. Folding in the first-day WSOP situation is insane unless you are such a poker god that skipping this hand to play the rest of the tournament -1BB is a higher EV than calling a 9-handed pot with the nuts. Folding on the final table situation will probably be correct since you all but guarantee second place which is higher EV than taking the gamble.

It's not a great idea to go all in that early in a tourney with a less than 70% chance of winning.

You are getting 9 to 1 from the pot here to make up for your reduced chance of winning. I realize you might want to bypass some EV in a tournament on occasion, but this is way to much to pass up.

If you each has 1000 chips, and you will win 30% (pretty conservative) of the time, you EV is 10000(.3) - 1000(.7)= 2300. It is hard to believe anyone's edge in this tournament is big enough that they can pass up a situation where the average result is to more than double his stack.

You don't put yourself into a less than coin flip situation at that point.

It's disappointing to see how many people are folding this in a cash game.
