[ QUOTE ]
then a week or so ago he posted something that he is not rolling in money like we all think he is. Curious. [/ QUOTE ] He may be not Bill Gates, but I'm sure he could lose a few MILLION dollars and still not be hurting (monetarily, not emotionially). |

Ok, another silly poll. 501M to a Billion, that's funny. I didn't see him in the Forbes 400.
Well, you can sit and make idle guesses or you can do a little research to get a ball park figure. I'll admit I'm curious, so all it takes is a simple search. A goggle of "Paul Phillips poker" reveals a link that tells us he was CTO of go2net. According to their IPO registration he originally was allocated 75K shares in stock, or 2.8% of the company. He probably also got stock options, but I didn't bother to look that up. There's also SEC documents that show insider transactions, but I didn't look for that either. So I don't know when he left the company or if/when he unloaded stock. If he sold around the time Infospace was looking to buy them out around the height of the internet craze, the price was around $60. They had split the stock by then so that's around 9 million for 150K shares. That's just ballpark, putting a price at one point in time. Maybe he sold for a lot more or a lot less or never sold at all. Whatever it really is, it's a lot of money, but not the kind of big 9 figure wealth your post seems to imply. He's still a "dot com millionaire" and did extremely well for himself at a very young age. Who knows how he's re-invested it or made from those investments not to mention his poker career. But I think it's safe to say he falls into the <50 mill category. |
