Re: turned top pair against a flop raise ...
If you think he's on a draw and will fold to a check-raise then check-raising is the best play here. Check-calling would be the worst. Our goal here is to take the pot down having just improved on the turn. We don't want to give villian a chance to improve to a hand that beats us.

Re: turned top pair against a flop raise ...
If he's on any legit draw on the turn, the check-raise won't fold him, it will just "charge him more". The only thing he's folding to a turn C/R is a hand that we are way ahead of, which are hands that we would prefer him to continue betting anyways ...
I like the donk line now ... |

Re: turned top pair against a flop raise ...
Why wouldn't we want to charge him more to draw?

Re: turned top pair against a flop raise ...
We would ... if we KNEW he was on a draw AND that he was going to bet the turn, then check raising the turn would be the best play. But we don't know he's on a draw ... he might check through the turn (reason to donk). He also might be way behind and check/raising the turn would lose a river-bet he would have put in.

Re: turned top pair against a flop raise ...
I don't think villian has given us any indication that he's not going to bet this turn. He raised the flop, hero called. I don't think all but the most scared opponents aren't going to fire again on the turn. If we lead and he raises are you going to fold?

Given his "somewhat laggy" reputation, I call down

Re: turned top pair against a flop raise ...
that's exactly my case for c/r this guy. We know he's gonna fire on the turn with air. Its unlikely he's going to fold and he'll most likely call a river bet even if he's UI.

Re: turned top pair against a flop raise ...
Even lags (but non-maniacs) might fold bottom pair or an A high to a scary board. I'm not sure whether to apply the "WA/WB" line or the "villian is drawing, charge him since there's no way he'll fold" line since both are equally likely with this board.

Re: turned top pair against a flop raise ...
if we check/raise and get three-bet, I think its safe to say we're behind on this hand because like you said, he might be laggy, but he's not a maniac. If we check-raise and he's drawing, he's loose enough that he'll call with a worse hand and possible call if he doesn't improve on the river.
If we donk, get raised, we call down in a situation in which we could already be behind. I think a check/raise might resolve some of these issues of being WA/WB or placing villian on a draw. |

Re: turned top pair against a flop raise ...
[ QUOTE ]
Comments on all streets appreciated ... It's hard for me to put villian on trips, since the majority of 1/2 6maxers wait until the turn to raise ... especially heads up. [/ QUOTE ] Yah, vast majority. Put a raise in somewhere, probably on the turn. I don't know why people have 'fold' in their vocabulary re: this hand. |
