Juanez -

It looks to me like the other winners were a little over generous in their tipping. I wouldn't sweat the young un. THese things have a way of working themselves out.

Considering the number of players I see tip $3 to $6 per hand in ring games, I can't imagine any dealer likes tournies.

Standard protocol may vary from room to room. Usually, there are a few to several dealers for a tourney and the tourney director will pay you your winnings. So, if you so choose to toke the dealers (recommended), I suggest giving it to the tourney director who will divide it equally among the dealers. 5% to 10% seems to be the acceptable and "normal" rate. And by the way, it's cool to toke the dealers a few bucks if you aren't in the money, but I wouldn't feel obligated....only if you feel the dealers deserve it. If you aren't in the $$ and you give a dealer $5 after you've been playing for 2 hours, he's going to REALLY appreciate it.

Winking at the cocktail waitress and throwing money around might get you other things, but no guarantees.

Just out of curiosity, if tipping were eliminated from both tourney and ring game play and dealing became a salary-only job, what do you think a fair wage for a dealer would be?

It would depend on the quality of dealer you wanted. I have worked as a dealer and I have an MA in economics; if you want me to deal your game you would have to pay more than if you want someone whose next best alternative is McDonald's.

Yes, I do. Theres this guy named Todd that deals at the Mirage that deserves at least 2X whatever the other dealers get. He is the best dealer I've ever seen and its not close.

Todd is INSANELY fast. He is constantly telling people where the action is, how many players are in the pot, etc and he shuffles like no other. I was also fortunate enough to see him chop a pot. God he was fast, he had a good size pot stacked up into 2 stacks in no time. I was also impressed by the fact the said he had gotten carpel tunnel and was forced to totally change his dealing style. He now deals by grabbing the card between his index and middle finger (i think) instead of using his thumb. It looked a little strange but it was incredibly fast and accurate.

Am sorry to hear about the tipping stuff...me as a player I sometimes forget to tip after raking in a major pot...when I do remember I'll tip at the end of the next hand or so...

Speaking of fast dealers....there is one at the Tropicana (AC) I cant remember this guy's name but he looks asian/far east... I would play games with this guy...when I'm in the BB I would make a "tee-pee" with my chips up against the rail and challenge him to knock it over when dealing me cards...he knocks it over almost everytime....same thing with the dealer button....just fun things to do with the dealer to make the game more enjoyable..

Whenever a bored player takes the button and stands it on its edge, I take aim at it, but knocking it down is too easy. I try to get his first card to stop underneath it; then I try to make his second card land on the first, hard--it will sail right on through.

It doesn't work often (I don't sit and practice this crap), but it looks cool when it does.
