I'd want one more guy in there preflop.

Default Well, maybe some content after all . . .

I'd like to get other folk's take on my pre-flop play. Perhaps this was a tad loose. The EP raiser and the cold-caller are complete opposites: the EP raiser is a very solid player who I used to play live with years ago in Kansas City, Missouri. The preflop cold-caller to my right is very, very loose, and a poor player.

I have been playing much tighter as of recently, with a vpip of around 20 or so. I still think this was a rather standard play on my part, although another coldcaller would have been ideal.

While I figure to be behind the EP raiser when I call, he will play straightforward after the flop. For instance, I am certain that I will be able to tell after the flop action whether he has a better A or not if one hits the flop. Position in this situation is key, and I have it.

Thoughts?

limp, raise, coldcall...I don't mind having ATs for assume 5 way action or so on average, assuming one of the blinds comes along.

3bet for value.

seriously though the call is obviously fine with a UTG limper and 2 players in front of you.

Ok.. maybe this is a basic concept, and I've been missing it all this time.

I fold ATs to an EP raise in this situation, so far, only 3 others are guaranteed to see the flop and I am very likely dominiated.

Since you are likely dominiated, the hand isn't being played for high card strenth. Since it isn't connected either, it is being played primarily for suited value. This seems to imply that you should play any 2 suited in this spot... which can't be correct.

Can someone set me straight here? This just doesn't seem right to me.

With a cold-caller between myself and the EP raiser, I make this call approximately 100% of the time. Easy decision, IMO.
