Well, I went through the options. Betting is just asking to be strung along by a flopped flush/pushed out if another spade hits. Checking invites somebody with the As or Ks to bet out and take the pot (or at least the tempo) away from you. This leaves us with the best option: open folding .

Seriously, I think the bet course of action is betting 2/3-4/3 the pot (I'd probably just bet the full pot), and seeing how the field reacts. Against an all-in reraise/any reraise that commits me, I'm probably folding. It's too early to lose to a made flush, or even worse for my confidence, a flush draw. I think you have enough strength to show it, but not enough to go down in a blaze of glory. If you bet the pot and isolate 1-2 other players, I probably lead a safe turn. If more than 3 players call you, I'm probably done with the hand regardless of the turn. That sound reasonable, or am I way off-base?

I actually thought this one was okay, but I'm not surprised Citanul is going for it tonight, the board appears to be full of rather weak questions today from repeat offenders.

if you bet the pot and 2 people call... what chances are there that you are not dead in the water?

its hard to see this situation in a larger scale where you will pot it.. get 2 callers.. and neither have a flush.

I guess you could say that one has the Ace and one has the K.. but that seems to be a little bit hopeful.

The main purpose of the overbet (if you choose to do so) is to really get a strangle hold on their hands.. and if TWO people call a pot bet on that flop.. the liklihood of the straight being ahead is not going to be high.

I was including the chance that you're called by two pair/ overpair/ straight draw / top pair / set / no hand but maybe some stupid curiosity / any of the above made more tempting by flush possibilities. I think that happens too at the $16s, but I'm not sure if that occurs a high enough % of the time to be a factor . So would you only continue against a single caller?

Most of the time... as long as the turn is safe. If you get one solitary caller.. they could have the flush or the nut draw or a set.. so its a lot less dangerous.

The overbet (if that is your line on the flop) gives you a lot of leeway in ascertaining strength.. but its never going to be an absolute indicator.

vs one person.. id be in the pot on a non spade turn.

my first thought was any bet here was throwing chips down a dark tunnel - and the only information that could come out of it was that i was behind. i mean with 7 people in the pot someone is likely to hold 2 spades...is open folding this terribly wrong?

playing hands like this requires a fair degree of post flop skill.. and you will constantly be facing difficult post flop decisions.

If you feel like you cant play difficult situations post flop.. then by all means open fold this.. but also fold it pre flop.
