I would like to know why he puts a premium on being loose.

I'm not sure that rating is necessary a good/bad thing; just another aspect he wanted to rate. Pretty cool player analysis though. I never realized that Chip Reese was that highly regarded. And it also surprised me when he called PLO Chan's best game.

Yeah, it is quite interesting that out of all the rankings there are only five "9"s given, and Chip has two of them (Side Games and Steam control). Phil Ivey gets two for Tournaments and Short Handed. Barry G gives himself one for side games. Tough grader.

Interesting article. I respect his viewpoints because he is a top notch pro himself. I do think that Phil Ivey is the best player in the side game that they play in. I heard that last year, he made about 20 million playing poker. No wonder he doesn't like to do tournaments. Gee, I wonder how Greenstein would rate David and Mason. How would YOU people rate S&M along the criteria set by Greenstein?

probably very high marks for limit, steam factor, ability to beat tough and bad opponents, and decent ranks for stud games.
low marks for no limit, omaha, and tournies. i imagine anyways... |

In an interview with Phil Ivey he says how BG took him under his wing and taught him an awful lot. So it doesn't surprise me that most people say the teacher is still better than the student.
I think Phil has really helped BG with some of his charities so BG is probably really showing PI some good stuff. I am surprised it showed PI's tilt factor or whatever it was called as a 5. |

Barry on Phil Ivey: "I often hear people saying Phil has been less successful than he has been in the past. 2004 has been Phil’s best year in poker, but he hasn’t played many tournaments. And when he has played in a tournament event, he has played tired because of the cash game the night before. (I know because I have been in the games with him.) He also has had to adopt a style geared to build up quickly or get knocked out quickly during the event, so that he won’t wear himself out for the cash game later that night. There were two big events in 2004 where there wasn’t a big cash game: the live Fox telecast in Turning Stone, New York which Phil won and the Monte Carlo Millions in which he came in third."
