Most people don't regard raises in level 1 and 2 as steal raises, because there just aren't enough chips in the pot to make steals all that worth it

[/ QUOTE ]

i disagree. i know that if i see somebody raise twice an orbit for the first two levels and they raise in the third level i expect them to have a wider range than someone who has just sat and paid blinds. i can't imagine others don't react the same way, and that includes you.

I don't know what you want us to say here. I don't see anything wrong with this necessarily. You called preflop to try and hit a set against 2 random hands. You missed, and got out of the way.

EDIT - are you talking about the SB betting 30 on the turn?

[/ QUOTE ]

sorry, let me be more clear. i never open-limp on the button.

[/ QUOTE ]

I think I understood this, but is it really worth it to put a nice piece of your stack out there defending 66?

ps, what buy-in is this?

[/ QUOTE ]

this is 30+3.

by "defending 66," do you mean limping or raising?

[/ QUOTE ]

raising pf

Since you open limped, I'd consider betting 2/3 pot on the flop when it's checked to you cause you're on the button. It doesn't look like either opponent is overly attached to that flop.

schwza, i'm not trying to give advice here. I'm trying to learn through your experience and through discussion. This is a hand people see 1,000,000x, and there are several different ways to play it. I'm trying to figure out which is best, and why.

agree, and I think 3/4 pot bet is right amount but am wondering if anyone thinks that a little over 1/2 pot bet would do the same thing and put less chips at risk given that you're folding to any reraise and probalby check/calling here on out right?

do you bet here with 34o? cause once i get called, my hand's no better (except that i am 50/50 against a flush draw if it gets checked to SD. weeeeeeee).

lately i've become much more (much too?) concerned with keeping a good steal image for later, especially with the guys just to my left.

Open-limp isn't horrible. Not standard, but not horrible. You must bet this flop. Letting this check through, and giving up those 90 chips that easy is very poor play, and defeats the purpose of having position. The point you make about once you get called you probably have the worst hand. That's true, but most of the time you're not going to be called and you're protecting against J2 and QT. Half pot is fine in this position. If you play this only for set value by open limping on the button you're going to be losing a lot of chips in the long run because you will rarely get paid off, since you're against the blinds there's no reason to think you have good implied odds, therefore, to make this open limp profitable you must take a stab at the pot, and the place to do it is on the flop.

I don't. Image is overrated unless you're raising very, very often. One random button raise in level two is not going to make the blinds open up any more in level 5.
