Chop one white onion, 1-3 stalks of celery, and 1 bell pepper, then saute in olive oil until the onion is translucent.
To one pound of dried red beans that have been soaked overnight, add 8-10 cups of chicken stock or a combination of chicken stock and water. Add one smoked ham hock or 1-2 pounds of smoked ham and about 1/2 lb of smoked sausage. Another option is to brown the sausage at the beginning and saute the vegetables in the sausage grease. Add two bay leaves, about a teaspoon of salt and half a teaspoon of cayenne, and 2-3 cloves of minced garlic. Cook until cooked and creamy, about 2 hours. Season. |

Brown rice is higher in fiber, but white rice is almost always (at least in most developed countries) enriched with other nutrients like iron, niacin, thiamin, etc. So white rice has significant nutritional value, especially if you don't rinse before cooking. That said, brown rice is a better option if the taste isn't a problem. -2kF |

If you are talking about the bag of uncooked beans and add salt and half an onion to the recipe and cook it for about 10 hours it will. Then add cornbread more salt some onions and some relish if you're into stuff that isn't good. Be sure to eat with boiled eggs and collard greens with lots of vinegar.
Or buy the uncooked 15 bean soup mix add in some cooked sausage and alittle bacon some onion, salt, pepper, alittle cayenne, and ground cumin and boil for as long as possible you have another great meal. |
