Re: Fresno St? East Coast Bias?
[ QUOTE ]
Would anyone in their right mind bet on Purdue against Bama without any points? [/ QUOTE ] Of course. There's a few gigantic Big Ten homers out there who take those teams to win against all out-of-conference teams all the time. One is a co-worker of mine. I wouldn't be surprised if he'd take Illinois over USC. I'm not kidding. His "right mind" obviously is not. |

Re: Fresno St? East Coast Bias?

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Those numbers are badly flawed because they don't take into account margin of victory. When you do, Fresno State looks MUCH better. Sagarin predictor has them 14th. [/ QUOTE ] Sagarin is on crack. His predictor has Purdue at 30th, Bama at 35th. Michigan State 17th! LOL. [/ QUOTE ] Does anyone else find it hilarious that you point to computers to overrate Fresno, but discredit them when they don't agree with your own, subjective rankings? [/ QUOTE ] Would anyone in their right mind bet on Purdue against Bama without any points? [/ QUOTE ] I'd certainly argue it's a lot closer than people think. Maybe I'm crazy, but I would consider taking Purdue with no points if they were at home. It's not like Alabama has been great. They're a mirage. They had trouble with a few bad teams and won close games for a while, then lost to the two good teams they played, one of them at home. |

The people who set lines think that Predictor is quite accurate, and I'd say linemakers know what they're doing better than just about anyone. Certainly better than (almost) every fan. YOU didn't seem to think he was "on crack" when you quoted his Elo-Chess number in your original post. P.S. Jack of Arcades is right, except I think he meant to say "objective." |

I never said they weren't out of wack. I just said they were unbiased.

Re: Fresno St? East Coast Bias?
There is a reason the BCS doesn't rely completely on the computers and this is it. Fresno St. is stuck in a weak conference they would love to get out of but they can't. Therefore, their conference schedule brings down their computer ranking. If you think they couldn't beat the Texas Tech's, Iowa State's or Boston College's of the world then you are mistaken.

Check out these computer ratings: 40 16 33 36 28 23 LOL. Yeah, must be some East Coast Bias in the computers too. [/ QUOTE ] Same computers that rank Texas above USC 5 out of 6? b |
