When you just call flop here, all the sudden the 6 or J comes, and then villain isn't stupid and is capable of folding hands that would go allin on flop.

I like fast playing this hand, but I'm trying to build a pot as opposed to getting somebody HU. I min raise.

raising the flop increases your chances of stacking someone by the river. raise the flop, big money no whammies.

Seems to me people are more likely to fear your hand with a minraise. Honestly I only see people minraise with monsters, so I only minraise with garbage. You'd be amazed how often people fold to minraise bluffs. Especially, mincheckraises. Anyone else have luck with this?

3/6 NL full ring

villain has around 740, hero has him covered

villain makes it 24 in the mp3, hero calls in the LP with J9s, button calls, bb calls

flop 78T rainbow.
bb, checks, villain leads for 50, hero makes it 150

[/ QUOTE ]

I like it, 740 is not getting into the pot unless you juice it somewhere. I like it even better with two more players to act; charge those pair + OESDs. Maybe one will have a set or two pair and you can get it allin on the flop with the nuts, a fine feeling.

thanks all for responses

everyone ended up folding, and i took it down. a friend of mine liked a smooth call in that spot, but i felt like i would not be able to play a big pot by just smooth calling, and plus i could destroy any two pair/set type hand by raising there.

i think also that a oesd may call the 150 anyway in hopes of taking me down, and if he catches a 7, he won't know that i have him smoked. in my mind, if they folded to the 150, they didn't have much of a hand to stack off on.

i either raise or call, depending on how aggressive i think the preflop raiser will be with AK, and how aggressive the table is in general. the raise, like everyone says, gets more money in. the nice thing about a call, however, is that if someone does have a 9 and feels like drawing to a 7, you can stack them if it hits... now that's a great feeling.
