Re: Semi-bluff vs Weak Fish?
[ QUOTE ]
Im assuming the flop raise is a standard positional free card play against weak opponents. [/ QUOTE ] Basically just taking over the hand from MP. Depending on what the turn comes, I'll bet or check accordingly. [ QUOTE ] I really like the turn bet, its the perfect scare card for you to bet because it improves your draws. You stand enough chance to pick up the pot right there and it gives you enough outs that you aren't concerned if your called. Is the logic right behind your line? [/ QUOTE ] My thoughts, more or less. They aren't thinking "Okay, it's less likely for him to have a ten now" but rather "Oh [censored] I'm probably drawing dead I should really fold." If they do have a ten, well, at least I have outs. |

I don't get the flop raise? [/ QUOTE ] I think it's called a bluff. It's when you make a bet or a raise trying to represent a hand that you do not have in hopes of stealing a pot. |

Re: Semi-bluff vs Weak Fish?
The post-flop play should be pretty standard (not the only line you could take but certainly one to be considered), its amazing more people wouldn't have played it the same.
The pre-flop call was kinda bad but Ive made worse and in low limit games were the players are that bad postflop it is not horible if you know how to play. Dopey |

Re: Semi-bluff vs Weak Fish?
Semi-bluff / free card play, not just a straight bluff.
If you take away the backdoor draws the raise makes a little less sense (example 53[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] on a J62 no club board, same gutshot no backdoor draws). By raising the flop you can see the river for one xtra SB (as opposed to another BB on the turn which you couldn't call if you didn't improve) and potential clean up you 9&8 pair outs if MP doesn't have overpair or a 10. You would call the turn if a J or a [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] came, but by raising you can now semi-bluff those cards as well if you choose. Combined with the flop raise any turn semi-bluff carries more weight. Dopey |

I think Joker was being sarcastic and I don't know about shant. [/ QUOTE ] My apologies. I suck at live play and make calls like this because I like to suck out on sour-faced Commerce regulars. Don't mind me. |

Re: Semi-bluff vs Weak Fish?
[ QUOTE ]
I think Private Joker was being serious about the postflop play. [/ QUOTE ] I was. I usually don't cold-call that preflop, but I certainly don't mind it. But re: postflop -- Blumpkin played it correctly. The flop raise will almost always get it heads up, and this will allow him to fold out AK/AQ on any rag turn. The fact that he picked up a flush draw to go along with his gutshot makes the turn bet mandatory, since he has two ways to win: fold the opponent, or draw out one of 12 outs on the river. |

Re: Semi-bluff vs Weak Fish?
If EP calls and you miss your draw on the river do you continue with the bluff?

Re: Semi-bluff vs Weak Fish?
[ QUOTE ]
If EP calls and you miss your draw on the river do you continue with the bluff? [/ QUOTE ] I don't think so. The board is paired on the turn, so if he still calls, then he's saying he doesn't believe you have trips and he will call down. |
