Re: Apparently you can play poker online for money
Oh, and if you miss the board completely, then you should roll two die and call if you roll a 6 or higher.

Re: Apparently you can play poker online for money
Seems like a routine fold to me. I don't think your 2 pair is good anywhere close to 80%.
Edit, sorry, you need ahead about 62% of the time, and I think it's less than 1/2 of that without more info on this player. |

Re: Apparently you can play poker online for money
Here's something I wanted to elaborate on... in the Party 2/4NL game, I see the "check-call all the way, then massively overbet the river with a huge hand" all the time. This move is particularly employed by fishy, but not overly LAGgy players. Generally, though, it comes in the form of an open-push on 5th street rather than a check-raise. If this had been an open-push river, I think this would have been an easy fold.
Something reeks about the check-raise. In a way, it feels like he's desparately trying to bluff. However, I also think he easily could have had a weirdly played 6-7, and based on my no limit experience I'd expect to be shown the straight, or perhaps a set, a good portion of the time. So I folded, because I'm a big pussy, which is why I work at Initech to begin with. |

88, J8, 2 lower pair, A2, and 76 in that order.

Yeah, I forgot to mention, 88 I thought was a good possibility. I would go with 76, 88, A2 in that order. I think a set other than 88 is a slight possibility as well.

Re: Apparently you can play poker online for money
Blah. Really none of these hands make any sense to check/raise the river with. Or to check/raise so big. It looks like he is trying to push you out of the pot because he has nothing. There is just no reason for him not to value bet a better hand on the river. I agree that an overbet push would potentially be a big hand, but c/r push just can't be a big hand more than 50% of the time, IMO. And warlockjd, you never need to be ahead more than 50% of the time on the river to make it a call. Obviously.

Re: Apparently you can play poker online for money
Right.
This is a classic "Villian has a huge hand, or is on a complete bluff" spot. Villian cannot really expect you to call here very often, and thus, is likely bluffing. This becomes especially true if there has been some recent history between the two of you, and you have been pushing him around. There are also meta game benefits to calling. If you call and lose, you will prevent many bluffs from heading your way in the future. If you call and win, villian will likely tilt and spew chips, if he sticks around. Furthermore, players will fear you more, and again, you will prevent bluffs in the future (except from Tilty Tilterson). |
