I know my river play is weak, but I check/call this river 100% of the time if I'm not certain I can't call a river raise. In a shorthanded game nobody is checking any hand they're calling with, and you eliminate any chance of getting raised off a winning hand. I'm probably the only one who thinks this, but I hate putting myself in position to get outplayed OOP on the river for 1 big bet.

Andy,

In a typical party 20-40 game, this is a definite value bet as villian calls with a variety of worse aces and other one pair hands. Given the river action, i really want to fold. I think it is generally the correct move, and that calling is very SLIGHTLY -EV. Justa hunch though, you will be shows a worse hand from time to time.

Like somewhat more than 8%?

At 20/40 this is a super easy call. You are shown a worse hand here frequently (relatively) even in a full game (my guess is 1-7) Close folds can only be made on the river versus players that are actually thinking about what they are doing.

You only have to be right 1 in 13.5 times to make your call correct. That's 7.4 percent. I doubt any of us can come up with a precise estimate of how often you're good here, but my gut is telling me that it's more than 7.4 percent heads-up against a LAG in a short-handed game.

I call here unless he was a bit more passive and I had a better read on his play. Some people like to get funky with AT/AJ here sometimes even KK.

I think it is close, and when it is close in this situation, I call. The problem with folding this hand (even if mathematically correct if you were about to leave) is that it will encourage players to make moves on you.

I bet and call to the river raise in a 4 handed game with this opponent.
