The problem with having an MD prescribe the meds is that very few MD's who are NOT psychiatrists are well trained in the pharmacology of the meds you'll be taking. You don't want someone who is basing their prescription (and worse, follow up examinations for negative side-effects) on drug company pamphlets. You want someone who reads the journals dealing with the clinical pharmacology of your meds on a weekly basis.
