Re: Dummy needs help with poker basics!
[ QUOTE ]
BTW, uderstanding the math in Mason's post means very little in terms of being a winning player - especially if you play live. [/ QUOTE ] However, understanding why Jacks in position are better than AQ out of position is very important. |

Re: Dummy needs help with poker basics!
Do you think Mason is sitting at home right now and thinking:
A)Wow, can't believe every single person on our mid-/high board is too stupid to see how right I am! B)Wow, can't believe how stupid I was in that thread! How will I ever show myself again on the mid-/high board? C)Wow, I have so much work to do with publishing I really couldn't care less what's going on with that stupid thread I started! D)Other |

However, understanding why Jacks in position are better than AQ out of position is very important. [/ QUOTE ] You have JJ and reraise $150 and get called by AQ. Your continuation bet of $225 is called on a Q-8-3 rainbow flop. Its checked to you on the turn after blank hits. Bet? Obviously. How much? Does AQ call? Careful, there is some EV at play. |

Re: Dummy needs help with poker basics!
Yo, seriously, you say you are a long-term winner at 5/10 NL. But then you ask these questions which clearly show that you do not understand winning poker. I don't get it. You say that JJ has an obvious bet on the flop. What if the opponent only called preflop re-raises with AA-QQ. Do you still have a bet here? Hmm...
And then to say what you're going to do on the turn without commenting on the playing tendencies of the opponent is clearly ridiculous. And then when you say that JJ will bet again and AQ will call again, what if the turn was a J? Would AQ still call again on the turn? What about on the river? This is how AQ gets stacked. And no, JJ probably doesn't bet that turn again unless there is a good chance that AQ will fold TPTK there. And he has to either pay off the set or be willing to fold TPTK. You can't possibly have it both ways. So this is a more complex problem. So it has to come down to some quick math (which shows JJ to be superior) and to a lot of experience (which shows JJ to be WAY superior). I don't see how you don't see this. |
