I don't really know the guy, and your in a better posistion to judge the situation then I am.

Theft just pisses me off, especially given the negative experiences I've had with it. Between the hit and run last week and my getting ripped of on ebay for $200 two weeks ago I also had my TI-86 stolen this summer (I think it gets stolen like at least once a year for the last eight years).
I was a little angry when I saw this post.

Whatever, I gave my two cents. He has to determine what he thinks makes amends for the whole situation. You all have a lot more information then I do.

SD = standard deviation
20SD in this case is short for a SD of 20 big bets per 100 hands.

This will be important for when somebody bumps this in a year and Klepton has or hasn't busted and has or hasn't gone back to a life of crime.

And why did your friends pay $30/$40 per bike when everyone just steals bikes anyway?

Since the value of bikes to your friends was likely zero, as they too could steal bikes, why didn't they just give you $30/$40 every now and again to support your addiction and save the bike owners the hassle?
