[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Best of the Best [/ QUOTE ] BTW, part II and III sucked big time. Haven't seen IV, but I'm sure it sucks as well. [/ QUOTE ] C'mon even part one was pretty bad, but great for some mindless chop-sockey fun. The sequels were not even good for that. I don't know if i'd call it obsure either since it's on every Saturday on some channel or other. [/ QUOTE ] Really? I've seen Best of the Best I once on TV and that was a long time ago. I noticed that they were playing Best of the Best 2 a couple times on cable a while back and I thought Wayne Newton had a comical enough role for me to sit down and watch the piece of trash for about 45 min before I started to get sick of it. If Best of the Best I is ever on TV again, please PM me w/ the ch/date/time. Thanks. |

magnolia?? sorry. try again. not even close to obscure. I think it garnered some talk for best-pic nomination (don't believe it was nominated). Tom Cruise might have been getting talk for best supporting actor nomination too. It was pretty widely distributed and very well known. Also - Friend of mine thought it was terrific. I thought it was pretty mediorce (bordering on crappy). [/ QUOTE ] hmmm...i guess i could argue the same about just about every post on this thread. instead, i offered something meaningful. and i did try again. twice, actually, with ruby in paradise and human nature. |

A few things:
Equilibrium - Not only is it not obscure, it's horrible. Gosford Park - Not obscure. Critically acclaimed and overrated. City of God - Not obscure. The Commitments - Not very obscure, quite good. The Neverending Story - Not obscure, not very good. The Croupier - Not very obscure, horrible. With that out of the way, I offer you: Le Fate Ignoranti (not sure how obscure this is, I doubt many of you have seen this) |

Dominic,
Local Hero is one of my favorites, and I love the Russian singing "Even the Lone Star State Gets Lonesome." But for real obscure, I'd go with Raul Ruiz's On the Top of the Whale. |

Here's one that I guess would be considered obscure now, but was extremely popular when it came out, and its director became really loved for this one especially, and a few more. For a true film buff, it's not terribly obscure, but for your average guy, much less your average young 2+2 poster, it's probably unknown.
Trouble In Mind, starring Kris Kristofferson. |
