Dredg started out as a [censored] nu metal band. I love all of their latest three releases.

In a week or so (finals soon, ugh), I'll upload some stuff that I listen to that really rocks.

Ha, that's pretty funny that I nailed that.

I'll keep an eye out, thanks.

Yeah, I did a quick search and didn't see it mentioned. I was shocked -- had to give it some love

PS- Apparantly I need to check out the Sufjan album. A friend of mind said he didn't like it much. That's what I get for listening to him.

Not sure about naming just one for my favourite of the year, but if I had to make a list... I'm going with the indie theme and not strictly rock, ps.

Spoon - Gimme Fiction
Anthony and the Johnsons - I Am a Bird Now
The New Pornographers - Twin Cinema
Doves - Some Cities
Architecture in Helsinki - In Case We Die
The Fiery Furnaces - EP
LCD Soundsystem - LCD Soundsystem
The National - Alligator

And probably some other ones that just aren't popping to mind right now.

Holy crap! Am I the first person in 13 pages to mention Trail of Dead and Death Cab???

Death Cab blows. And even if you don't think they blow, you will agree they blow HARD live. But even after knowing how hard they suck live I still wanted really, really badly to go to their show the other weekend if only to see Stars. Didn't get to.

Good lord people. I'll go ahead and say it I guess: I love indie music and do not like Surfjan Stevens.

I went to their show here in Los Angeles at the Wiltern a couple of weeks ago. Death Cab was not as bad as I was expecting them to be. Stars was fantastic though.

I seriously am jealous. I've still never seen Stars and I am absolutely in love with them. If I had to pick my single favourite line from a song this year, it would hands-down be the first line, second verse from Your Ex-Lover is Dead: This scar is a fleck on my porcelain skin. I would've paid admission just to hear Amy deliver that one line. I still can't help but smile everytime I hear her deliver it. So perfect.

K, Im gonna attempt to draw a diagram here, and for what it's worth, someone please change my mind.

Rock and Roll: it starts in the 50's, with a rebellious electric guitar, kind of a poppy sound. Then it moves forward, and we get metal rock, you know... POWER CHORDS, drums, a lil rockin ass bass.

You have Iommi who basically invents rock guitar, jimi hendrix... well he's just jimi, and all of those classic rock greats we all know and love.

Then, we get pantera, metallica, et al... and they further rock with hard driving lyrics, power chord, and trilling beautiful solos. Then there's grunge, and now rock has disseminated into emo, alt pop, and truly awful guitar hell.

I see all this, and I sort of accept it.

but nowhere in there did I utter the word folk, I didnt say banjo, and I dont understand how any of this is rock.

Please prove me wrong, and show me this. I know the history of the rebirth of the folk/country thing with Willie at Threadgills, but Im still not seeing that it's rock.
