Re: Your ENTIRE bankroll on AA...do you do it?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Shouldn't it be any suited connector that doesn't make a straight with an ace? 98s, 87s, 76s? [/ QUOTE ] Yes, you are correct. So when asked what is the best hand, it's 98s (sure 87s has the same odds, but the 9 is higher). [/ QUOTE ] It doesn't matter that the 9 is higher, AA beats 99 as equally efficiently as it beats 88, 77, 66, or 55. Second place is second place, no matter how high your high card is. Any suited connectors where you don't need an A to complete the straight is equally good against AA. Even better odds are achieved if your suited connectors are not of the same suit as one of the Aces, I believe. |

A final note with some math for you nay-sayers
my final note on this interesting post - this is a "personal opinion" poll, not a "one-way-or-the-other is always correct." There is no need to belittle anybody or call them idiots for voicing their opinion.
To make it simple for explaining my point of view, lets assume the following: You have a bankroll of $30,000 You make $60 an hour playing 3 tables of 10/$20 You play 125 hours a month - or 4 hours per day Therefore you make $90,000 a year You can find $500 somewhere to start over if you lose your poker bankroll You win the bet and have $30,000 extra - Whoo Hooo! You lose the bet, and have to play $1/$2 and build your way up again to the $30k you lost. You start at 1/2 and make 3bb/hour on 3 tables and in about 10 days you have won $700 and can go to $2/$4 with $1200 You play $2/$4 on three tables for 2.5bb/hour for five days and move to $3/$6 with your $1800 You play $3/$6 on three tables for 2bb/hour (per table) for 17 days and can move to $5/$10 with your $3000 You play $5/$10 on three tables for 1.75bb/hour for 15 days and can move back to your $10/$20 game. You made $5500 in 47 days, but lost your average win for that period of $60/hour x 47 days x 4 hours/day = $11,280 Subtract $11,280 from $5500 and you have a net loss of $5780 and the $30,000 bet - so your loss overall is $35780 If you had won the bet, you would have won $30,000 - and you were a huge favorite to win - Again, my call of the bet for my $30,000 is so freaking easy. Re: Your ENTIRE bankroll on AA...do you do it?
Why? There is no sure thing in poker why would you put it all on one hand? Isn't this mistake we learned from the movie Rounders?

Re: Your ENTIRE bankroll on AA...do you do it?
I bet the dividing line on call or fold is less related to "pro" or "amateur" than it is on Limit player and NL player.
note.....I say this without even looking at alot of the replies or trying to ascertain who is a limit and who is a NL player. So take the above statement with a grain of salt. |

[/ QUOTE ] It's still not an easy call, because it's much, much easier to make $30k in 30 days on a 30k roll than it is to make $60k in 30 days on a $60k roll. So going bust basically kills your earn (you could have doubled your $30k anyway for the most part) but doubling money may do very little for your overall earn. Nigel |

For those of you who would not do it(including me. What percentage of your bankroll would you risk on AA preflop.

Re: Your ENTIRE bankroll on AA...do you do it?
[ QUOTE ]
The 32% of people who answered no should not be playing poker. um wrong. you have to factor in risk of ruin. if i lost, i would have to get a job. no thanks. [/ QUOTE ] my thoughts precisely. i have a wife and 4 kids to feed and cloth. to risk it all on one hand would be reckless and irresponsible. hell, just to bring your entire bankroll to a game where you could lose it all is insane. i have risked over $1000 in one hand on AA, but not preflop. if i'd had the chance to, i would have, though. cheers! |
