Congrats to the Tribe and their fans. It really sucks that the Sox couldn't carry the intensity of the first two games into tonight's game. Real letdown.

This series certainly did nothing to calm my concerns. These last two months Cleveland has been bar none the best team in baseball, and it's nerve-wracking to have them within 2 1/2 games. See you in a week and a 1/2. I'm guessing it will still be a season at that time.

very classy of you, thanks dude.

i still think the white sox are going to hang on to the division, and i now think the indians are goign to win the WC. this means... the red sox are not making it to the playoffs. obviously the east is still crazy close, especially with the series at the end at fenway, but bottom line the al east does not look like theyre getting the wild card, ESPECIALLY since the yanks and sox play each other at the end of the season. dont underestimate how much this helps the indians (and white sox, if they do lose the division)

the indians are keeping it up, i doubted them but theyre playing ridiculous. in the last ten games theyre doing almost as good as the yankees, wow.

Yeah Andy was stating the Yanks might squeek in about 2 weeks ago. I said the Yankees have a good chance to win the division. Now they're in first and beating the crap out of the also rans. I give the Yankees their due, they're playing great. They have 5 more games with the Orioles and 3 with the Jays before the Red Sox series. I think the Red Sox will beat up the teams left on their schedule as well. Looks like the final series of the year will decide the division and perhaps one team will be left out of the playoffs.

I think if there's one thing we can say, it's that we can't say who'll get in. All the teams involved have looked brilliant at times this year and all have looked terrible. The only team that had avoided looking terrible had been the White Sox, because they had, compared to all the others, superior starting pitching. But now they're looking bad too. Oakland looked like the best team in the league (by far) for a couple of months, now they're in trouble.

So I wouldn't be suprised by just about any result.

FWIW, here are the contenders' records since July 1:
New York: 49-24
Cleveland: 46-28
Oakland: 45-28
Boston: 43-31
L.A.: 38-34
Chicago: 38-35

just a note, when i said "9-1, slam dunk" I meant that I was 100% sure the yankees were 9-1 over their last ten, not that they would win the east.

I think the White Sox will get into the playoffs. They have the biggest chance IMO, but at the same time they are the team most likely to lose in the first round of the playoffs.

Other than that, in the East it's too close to call. The Yankees have the edge because they are slightly ahead and have looked as of late, but it's going to be an awesome finish.

Right now, if you forced me to rank the teams in terms of playoff chances:

1. Chisox
2. Indians
3. Yankees
4. Red Sox

The Indians have a huge edge because the Yankees and Boston play each other at the end of the season. I initially doubted them, but they beat chicago and right now I gotta believe they're going to finish the deal.
