Ok, I want everyone to put down what the best poker advice they have ever received. You can put the situation, or just a sentence, I think this would be a good learning thread also

[/ QUOTE ]

This may have been said as I didn't read all the posts. Best advice I have received and give is:

Fold when you are beat. Chasing and playing catchup is a losing strategy.

Good poker advice, but even better for life in general: Don't make me angry, you wouldn't like me when I'm angry.

I WOULD ADD TO ALL THE OTHER ADVICE MENTIONED, THAT WHEN PLAYING ONLINE, KEEP YOUR HAND OFF YOUR MOUSE BUTTON AND FOLD YOUR ARMS ACROSS YOUR CHEST. WHY? WHEN SOMEONE RAISES OR RERAISES YOU, TAKE A FEW SECONDS TO THINK BEFORE YOU CLICK. IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANYTHING CLOSE TO THE NUTS, PREPARE TO POSSIBLY TAKE A HIT ON THE BANKROLL. BY TAKING YOUR HAND OFF THE MOUSE BUTTON, YOU WON'T HAVE THE IMPULSE TO CLICK AND CALL THE BET BEFORE THINK IT THROUGH.

Bestest ever:
The Skill of Poker is winning more money with your good hands than your opponents would with the same hands, and losing less when you do lose with mediocre hands than others would

I modified it slightly to come with my very ownsecond bestest advice for myself:

The skill of NL games is winning more money with your mediocre hands than your opponents would with the same hands, and losing less money when you do lose with great hands, than others would.

No set, no bet.

Also, I don't know if this is good advise, but I started winning more when I started thinking in terms of bets instead of dollars spent. My aggression went up and started taking down a lot more pots without a showdown.

"set, bet" is great advice.
"no set, no bet" is terrible advice.
