- $1000/month
- 1 BR/bath, about 900 sq. ft.
- edison, nj
- good location, right off major highways but not congested (relative to most of central/north jersey at least)

[/ QUOTE ]

Off 1 near 287? Near the Menlo Park mall or further north? (Just curious as I'm very familiar with that area.)

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm not who you were asking, but I'm in Woodbridge. My place is on Route 35, just off Route 1 (north of the Woodbridge Mall and across from the Sports Authority).

$900/mo (heat and water included)
I'm not measuring, but it's plenty big for just me

And I used to live in Edison too (on 514, also right off Route 1 across from the Home Depot).

Im in the South End of Boston and the rent in my 3br is 3150 a month. We split that 3 ways. Its a lofted apartment with 2 bed rooms and the full bath upstairs. Downstairs we have a good sized living room and another bedroom and 1/2 bath. Also a washer and dryer and an area with a bar and a pool table. We also have a pattio off our living room. The rent includes parking for everyone (tough to get spot late at night) and all heat/HW/Electricity.

$750/month, no utilities. One of my long time friends is my roomate.

2 Bedroom apartment in an red brick school house that was built in 1834. 16 foot ceilings, main room is 16'x35', I could put up a basketball hoop and play half court. Chalk board is still up, runs the hallway. Central air conditioning.

West side (good side) of Worcester, MA. 35 miles west of Boston. City of 200k, college town (7 colleges). Typical rent is about $1400 but the school was bought by some old man who hasn't raised the rent in 10 years and the building is extremely low maintentance.

$1075/month

-Also southside of williamsburg, bk
-1 bed room (shaped like 90% of the one bedrooms in south williamsburg) 3rd floor walk up
-view of empire state building from my window, but not much else
-Building is about half young adults, half families.
-Building used to have a 'doorman' (ie crack dealer) but he's gone now.
-Far enough away from the the hipster part of williamsburg for my needs.

Yeah, that was confusing, my bad.

The first floor has 4 people living there too. However, it's 2 seperate units, so if the 1st floor is empty, second floor doesn't have to pay $3600 that month instead of the $1800.

I got the car part ... now I'm confused about the rent. Have you been drinking?

That's probably true, and I'm quite a bit older than many here. But it doesn't make it any less sick.

Here is a fun fact for those of you outside of NYC. In NYC, if you rent an apartment that costs $4k/month (which is a very nice one bedroom or a decent two bedroom in nice neighborhoods), your move in cost could easily be as high as : first month + last month + security (month) + 2 months broker fee = $20,000 up front to move in to $4k/mo apartment!!!! How sick is that!?!?!

[/ QUOTE ]

You paint an accurate picture, but I did always wonder why someone who had the credit and could afford an apartment that expensive in NYC wouldn't be able to put a down payment on a similar apartment.

Also, just curious, what neighborhoods have you been looking at in NYC?

This thread is crazy. I have been recently looking at 1br apts in SF for $2000-3000 and 1br apts in NYC for $3000-4000.

[/ QUOTE ]

Thank you. I was wondering when people like me would chime in.

- $1650, utilities included
- Downtown DC, two blocks from Dupont circle and the downtown offices (K street, etc.)
- Not in the lame DC suburbs.
- 1 BR / 1 BA
- No parking
- Rooftop pool, good apt. space for the area, 24 hour front desk.

Pricey? Yeah . . . but the value of not having to own a car, walking where I want and being in a cool place during my twenties makes it worthwhile to me. The view ain't bad either.

"Location, Location, Location . . ." as they say.
