You (jersey) continually made 2+2 look bad, please don't do so again.

Yes, jersey, please, never do what you were doing in that tournament again. There is no reason to try and get them to come here, and even less to act like a tool while doing so.

Did you consider pushing that AK straight off DVC?

Tosh,

I can't speak for DVC, but the villian had been going all in on every hand. I would imagine the odds of getting maximum chips would not have been to push preflop, as that would most likely scare the villian away.

And he got it all in with by far the best of it. That's all you can do.

I was watching the final table really closely, and the big stack played it absolutely perfect. With 2 smallish stacks, and 2 medium stacks, he pushed all-in around 5 times in a row, picking up 90K every hand, and I thought, How can DVC call him? Each step up the ladder was worth 20K at this point I think, and there would be a strong inclination to wait for the smaller stacks to get picked off. With AK there I just push hoping for a fold. I'm not interested in getting maximum chips there.

Hi Tosh -

Yes, somewhat. I know that AK likes to be all-in pf to see all five cards on the board. In hindsight, my tight image at the table might have made H Factor fold pf had I pushed. However, in the heat of play, betting all-in to the chip leader seemed like a very risky thing to do. I didn't want to risk the rest of the tourney on a gamble. I opted to make a standard 3xBB and hoped he didn't have cards he wanted to play. When the flop came all rags, I pushed bluffing a made hand and hoped that he only had over cards.

But by only raising 3xBB pf, I did not factor in that I was essentially betting half my stack. If I had thought that through a little more, I might realized that a push was the correct play. This was an error that ended costing me a higher place in the tourney. This is a leak in my game that I hope to address in the future.

In my defense, I think that H Factor also made some bad calls. Calling my raise preflop with K3o was terrible. And the flop call with only high card K with gutshot draw was also bad given the pot odds. Drawing to an inside straight is something like 10 to 1 (or 5 to 1 with two cards to see). The pot was only offering 2.5 to 1 with my raise. His correct play should have been to fold.

However, that's poker. Sometimes the incorrect play is the one that wins you the most chips. I made a few suckouts myself duing this tourney (my A3 vs AQ and made trip 3's on the flop). I'm happy where I placed although I would have been happier placing higher.

Steve
