Re: You Never Know
6 Excellent Teams. With the Angels dusting off the A's in the past week, it's down to 4 excellent teams and 3 open playoff spots. I hope Cleveland makes it close enough for that series to be worth watching, but right now, it looks like NYY @ BOS should be one of those series you need to watch.

Re: You Never Know
Cleveland is going South at way the wrong time. They are losing it and have nobody to blame but themselves. They better get it together, NOW.

Change the magic number stupids
I keep hearing this on TV, "The White Sox magic number is 2 but it's actually really 1."
because of this(took from another forum): [ QUOTE ] A Sox win tomorrow clinches the AL Central...regardless of what any other team does tomorrow. Here's why: 1. The Sox would be 96-63. The best the Indians and Red Sox would be after tomorrow is 93-66. 2. If the Sox get swept by Cleveland, both the Sox and Cleveland would be 96-66. A one-game tiebreaker would be played to determine (CWS @ Cleveland on Monday) the AL Central champion ONLY IF the AL Wildcard contender from the East has as good if not better record than 96-66. 3. Since the Yankees and Red Sox play each other to finish the season, either the Yankees or the Red Sox will finish NO BETTER than 95-67. 4. Thus, if the Sox win tomorrow, they clinch the AL Central. The only way Cleveland can tie the Sox is to sweep the Sox. If they sweep the Sox, Cleveland is 96-66 and beats the AL East wildcard contender by one game. Hence, the one-game tiebreaker to determine the AL Central champion would not need to be played since both the White Sox and Indians would be in the postseason. The tiebreaker then goes to head-to-head during the season, which the Sox would still win even if they were swept. [/ QUOTE ] So why don't the sports anchors just say the magic number is 1 because the magic number IS 1. Hopefully this [censored] is done with tomorrow so I can enjoy the weekend. |

Re: Change the magic number stupids
Remember when the Yankees were 0-25 on the season when scoring 3 or fewer runs?
Well, now they've won 5 of those games in a row - and they only scored 3 runs once in those 5 games, and 1 run twice. |

[ QUOTE ] there are 0 excellent teams in the AL. [/ QUOTE ] How do you figure? There had better be 0 excellent teams in the NL as well for this statement to have any credibility. [/ QUOTE ] the number of excellent teams in the NL has nothing to do with the number of excellent teams in the AL. in any given year there may be 2 or 3 great teams in the league, or 0. it just depends. last year, the Red Sox were an excellent team. They had a great 1-2 punch in Schilling/Pedro, decent starters behind them (including Derek Lowe who was unhittable in the playoffs), a closer at the top of his game, dependable guys like Timlin and Embree to set up, a versatile and deep bench (Dave Roberts, Mientkiwecz), strong defense, and oh yeah a historically great run producing offense. no team in the AL comes close to last years Red Sox, or any other "excellent" team from seasons past. Every contender in the AL has some troubling flaws, be it starting pitching, bullpen, offense, defense, whatever. the Cardinals are the only team that comes close to being "excellent". |

Re: You Never Know
Fine. They're not "excellent."
"Playoff-worthy." That's good, right? |
