Oh, I know it's pretty gay to admit liking Bridges of Madison County...yet I can't help feeling this way. The movie is so incredibly well made, everything from the writing to the music (some of which Clint himself wrote and played), and the performances of both Clint and Streep are flawless.

Now, I'm not a big fan of chick flick type movies, but Bridges is just a damn good movie. Oh well...

no need to apologize - it's a great, romantic movie.

But the book is still laughably, horribly bad.

I'll second consideration for Ghost World.

Maybe I'm grouchy...but almost every movie I'm coming up with feels like it shouldn't deserve consideration for top 5.

Amongst the candidates:

Trainspotting
Pi
Ghost World (kinda/sorta)
Clockwatchers
Shawshank
American Beauty
Big Lebowski
Mallrats (kinda/sorta)
Reservoir Dogs
Before Sunrise
Scent of a Woman
Leaving Las Vegas
Wonderboys

hell....even Rounders

and then there's the timeless classic Baseketball ("you're excited?!?! Fell these nipples!" - Bob Costas)

but right now narrowing it down to 5 feels like it would actually imply too much greatness when it's really just an exercise in weeding-out the 'not quite as mediocre'

But...if I must...here's my 5 (for the time-being):

Wonderboys
American Beauty
Before Sunrise
Clockwatchers
Shawshank (barely makes it....effect has been diluted due to over-exposure)

(R-Dogs gets a close 6th)

Scorcese bores me and the only list of mine that Good Fellas would make would be 'over-rated films'.

I think someone mentioned Raising Arizona which I thought was circa 1988 or 1989.

Clockwatchers is great. So is Thirteen Conversations, their other movie.

It was originally intended as a "greatest" list, but it got away from that pretty quickly.

great topic, i am not sure if it is possible for me to narrow it down to just five.

Tier One
Lost In Translation
Pulp Fiction
Virgin Suicides
American Beauty
City of God

Tier Two
Magnolia
Usuall Suspects
Fight Club
Royal Tenenbuams
Adaptation

Teir Three
Cider House Rules
Punch Drunk Love
Clerks
Vanilla Sky
Being John Malkovich

This changes almost daily for me. I got a lot of stuff that I need to watch right now (thirteen, swimming pool, garden state, ect)
