That's not the worst. It's when CORPORATIONS start claiming that their ability to take money from dumb people somehow makes them great or worthy admiration. Or even worse is when they claim they are being responsible with their own PROFITS by utilizing their TALENT to the fullest.

[/ QUOTE ]

Fixed your post.

Poker is pure and honest. I know every one of my opponents wants to bust me. No marketing needed.

[/ QUOTE ]

Some corporations are indeed pretty bad (DeBeers and two months salary, for example), but in general corporations are providing something to people for their money and being economically productive. Poker playing is clearly a net loss to the world. Also many corporations do give their best employees an outlet for unleashing their maximum creativity energies in order to turn a profit. A good corporation is far more admirable than the best pro poker player any day.

As for your "no marketing" claim. How big was poker before the WPT? How about before the movie Rounders? It is clearly also market driven.

I can't wait.

I was just tring to show the interesting juxtaposition of corporation/poker player in the morality statement made by the guy I quoted.

I am egotistical but it was no fallacy, maybe just bad literary form.

Boy is this post out of date. check out neverwinpoker.com- Keyser is up around 500K over the last week or so, and won another 200K like 10 days ago. Keyser demolished catchoftheday for around 250 or 300K over the weekend. He also took neverwin for a while earlier today for maybe 50K. Read the threads at neverwinpoker.com, then read the original post in this thread again. It will blow your mind as it did me. Thanks.

That does kinda suck. If he is a compulsive gambler the odds are that he would have gambled the money away anyway.

[/ QUOTE ]

And that being the case, the socially responsible thing would be to match him heads-up with Barry Greenstein.

A degenerate gambler busted out. Big deal. Maybe if he really did hit bottom he might actually get some help. That reminds me of an old Sopranos episode where one of Tony's childhood friends became indebted to Tony's crew and they cleaned him out of everything, including his kid's SUV and college savings. Once the loser had finally reached bottom and was pleading with Tony for compassion, Tony's response was "Hey, you got yourself into this mess. Cleaning someone like you out is my bread and butter."

[/ QUOTE ]

Of course, Tony's real profit came from using the loser's credit line to defraud a bunch of totally innocent merchants, but why spoil a good quote?
