Most of the good stuff has been mentioned, but I didn't see these two:

Sloan
The Stone Roses

They both have greatest hits CD's, so I'd start with those.

In addition to Superunknown, which many have recommended you should get Soundgarden's Badmotorfinger, as well.

Soundgarden is my favorite band, so I'd recommend at least Louder than Love and Down on the Upside, too, but Superunknown and Badmotorfinger as absolute musts.

Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation, Dirty, Goo
Stevie Wonder - Innervisions, Talking Book, Songs in the Key of Life
Stone Temple Pilots - Core, Purple
Strokes, The - Is This It

Some of these have probably been mentioned. I haven't read the whole thread.

All of these have been mentioned, except for Stevie Wonder. Probably because Stevie Wonder belongs in a thread for Ws.
