99 too passive? too weak?
First rotation but seems to be relatively tight game for this level - about 3-4 players per flop. Other than that no reads yet.
PokerRoom 0.25/0.50 Hold'em (7 handed) converter Preflop: Hero is UTG with 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. Hero calls, MP1 raises, 1 fold, CO calls, 2 folds, BB 3-bets, Hero? I was pretty much following SSH tight game prefop guide here and just called with the 9's - is this too passive here? I routinely call 1 bet back to me preflop but treat 2 bets back similar to cold calling and almost never call here. Is that to tight??? |

Re: 99 too passive? too weak?
I would call with 22 in that situation. You are getting 4:1 immediate odds, likely to be closer to 5:1 depending on the action after you. With implied odds you can play that just for set value profitably...

Re: 99 too passive? too weak?
If the players are solid postflop I usually don't raise 9's here, because it's only folding weaker hands that I want to come along.
With that said, I think I call after it's 2 back to me, with a pot this big you will have a lot of people pay you off if you flop a set. Though I suport my advice I think the Eegah line for 99 is the best line, I just can't seem to pull it off. It goes: Raise preflop, flop quads. |

Re: 99 too passive? too weak?
I raise it up preflop. If comes back to you for one more bet or two it's a definite call. You are getting great odds to flop a set. But maybe it will play out differently if you raise first in.

Re: 99 too passive? too weak?
I think calling or raising is fine either way PF. I might raise this being first to act just to try to get some people drawing to bigger pairs out of the way.
The way that it was played, I think I would fold to the 3-bet. |
