Then again, the '86 Series hardened me (and made me a true Red Sox fan).

Any defeat snatched from the jaws of victory hurts. When your team is in the postseason a lot, you end up with exhilirating victories and agonizing defeats. My Yankees gave me the greatest thrill in 1978, when they came from way back in August to win the pennant, and then from 2-0 down in the World Series. And the greatest agonies with the 9th inning loss in 2001 after two back-from-the-dead with 2 outs in the 9th inning wins. And of course the 3-0 collapse against the Sox can never be exceeded--duplicated maybe, but never exceeded.

In 2001 we had the victory in hand, and Mariano (who was invincible) on the mound. The thought of losing didn't even enter my mind. As for 2004, after Damon's grand slam, things were looking very bleak. It was a very slow death in 2004, which is a lot easier to handle. In game 4 when the Bosox came back to win, it was not that big a game in my opinion because I still thought the Yanks would win a later game. Assuming the same type of collapse, it is a REALLY tough question, but I guess if I had to choose, I would rather lose the World Series Game 7. I just really hope it's not in 2001 fashion. But why deal with hypotheticals? NEW YORK YANKEES: 2006 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS OR BUST.
