Getting Start in Hold'Em. Or just search the Books/Publications forum, I know it was discussed a lot when the book first came out.

It doesn't look like your friend is in the best mindset going into this and he might be in for some unpleasant surprises.
Oh, and I don't think that it really matters which one he does. I think that learning both at the lower stakes is around the same difficulty. |

In terms of making a small amount of money fast, Ed's short-stack NL cash strategy is probably best. If he wants to learn to play poker, there's no better training ground than SnGs.

I've played both and cash games are more profitable....also with sit and goes eventually it will be shorthanded and he will actually have to ....gasp...play poker. [/ QUOTE ] This is the point in a SNG when the last thing you should be doing is much post flop play. Assuming that short handed = big blinds a player using correct strategy will mostly be pushing or folding. |

It's rather depressing that he just wants to pushbot and not actually learn to play.
If he wanted to learn to play then I'd suggest cheap 1 on 1 SnG's for a total newbie - incredibly low risk of ruin and fantastic experience in reading people. Also very useful for when you get HU in 9-10 player SNG's (which can make a big difference to your ROI). For building a bankroll mindlessly then both short stack low stake NL and pushbot SNG's will do the job - why doesn't he try both and see which he likes best? The when he's built up a nice roll he can move up, take a shot and lose it to me |
